Many people in India who have suffered amputations don’t wear prosthetics either. It’s because of poverty, not because they are taught exercises to improve function.

I hear that in India people are kidnapped, drugged, and wake up on the side of the road with one less kidney

The same thing is true of hearing aids. If you wear them as directed by the doctor, you will find yourself gradually turning up the volume. In three years, the volume had to be increased by 30% and I was looking at purchasing new ones.

On my own initiative, I removed them and only inserted them when absolutely necessary, given the situation. Now my volume is set 20% lower than it was originally and I hear well with that. An added benefit is that my hearing without the hearing aids has improved enough that my wife noticed it without prompting!

Caveat emptor!

Yep. Glasses tend to be a scam. Unless you have an injury or something, it’s a scam. Your eyes get adjusted to the glasses and get fucked

This guy has spent the last decade teaching people you don’t need glasses for myopia

https://endmyopia.org

It’s probably the same for other conditions

Apparently, if you exercise your eyes hard enough, you can see amoebas without the aid of a microscope. BTW, what “other conditions” do you have in mind? Astigmatism?

Well there maybe a problem with your doctor but the problem with your lenses began at the desk ordering them. Those people don't know how to fit you properly. They want you to choose the most expensive options. You probably got the whole shabang am I right? The digital whatever that gives you a wider view, and the frames are huge am I right? You just need the easy view and a smaller frame. Walmart is great and , American eye wear. You get a basic frame and the basic in your lens and it cost you 175.00 or 300 for two sets and a eye exam.

It's infuriating. I wore glasses for years for nearsightedness in one eye. I moved to Japan 33 years ago. You go to a eyeglass shop and a machine scans your eyes and calibrates your sight and the appropriate lenses. No optometrist needed and included with your visit. Select a frame, go have some coffee and your glasses are ready.

Total cost is about equivalent to about $70-$100.

I was told I shouldn't wear glasses. My eye was slightly weak from the lens doing the work instead of my eye. I stopped wearing them 11 years ago and at 72 years old, my eyesight is perfect and the nearsightedness went away.

Coming back to the US, my wife went to get new glasses. The prescription was ridiculous and she was nauseous within a minute from the insanely strong lenses.

She could have flown back and forth to Japan to get new glasses for less than the insanely high price. We bailed.

Ever since I returned to the US, I'm constantly saying to myself, "What the hell is wrong with these people?" :)

Instead of reading glasses, I’ve found that a small flashlight usually gets me through most situations where I need to read small print.

„Few Indians wear glasses.“ Really?

So what‘s the solution? Did you start eye exercises? Which ones? Do they help?
