Tough Love
When our children become adults it's best to let them go. To struggle and fail. And succeed.
But many parents think they can shield them from struggle and failure with money. But in the long run, that has the opposite effect. You know what that subconsciously tells them?
You don't believe in them.
Struggle, failure and success, put the sparkle in young adults' eyes. The charming expressions on their faces. It also makes them warriors, giving them the confidence and backbone to endure when the parents are gone.
These are huge advantages to have in the gene pool sweepstakes.
And trying to come up with huge sums of money for their kids will cause enough stress to put the parents in an early grave. This should be your time to relax.
Some parents keep their children dependent for selfish reasons. They don't want to lose their role as providers.
Of course, don't abandon your kids like lions. Slowly nudge them out of the nest. Trust in them and they will believe in themselves.
And prepare for your next role. Grandparent.
